Find the Right Mesh Count In One Click
Mesh count is threads per inch. Lower counts have bigger openings and lay down a heavy ink deposit; higher counts hold finer detail with a thinner, softer deposit. Pick what you are printing and we will point you at the range, the mesh color and the screens we stock for it.
Big openings let glitter, shimmer and high-density specialty inks pass without clogging, and lay down the thick deposits those inks need to sparkle and stack.
Heavy deposit and maximum opacity for bright white underbases on dark garments. This is the base layer every top color sits on, so deposit matters more than micro detail here.
The workhorse range for standard plastisol spot colors on tees and hoodies: solid coverage with a smoother hand than the underbase counts.
Thinner deposit and crisper edges for detail work, top colors over an underbase and the first halftones. From 200 up our screens run yellow mesh to protect fine detail during exposure.

Welded Aluminum, Sized To Your Press
Every static screen here is a welded aluminum frame: rigid, light and unaffected by the wet reclaim cycle that warps and swells wood. 20 x 24 is the manual-press standard, 20 x 28 adds length for jacket backs and better off-contact, and 23 x 31 is the automatic-press standard with room for oversize and multi-up layouts. Threads Per Inch
Low counts (60 - 160) lay down heavy, opaque deposits. High counts (230 - 420) hold fine detail with a thinner, softer deposit. The finder above matches count to job.
White vs Yellow
Yellow mesh absorbs stray light during stencil exposure instead of scattering it, protecting fine detail. That is why our 200-and-up screens run yellow and workhorse low counts run white.

Degrease, Coat, Expose
The screen carries your emulsion stencil. Stencil thickness over the mesh controls edge sharpness and ink deposit, and clean degreased mesh is what makes emulsion bond instead of pinhole.

The Shur-Loc E-Z system separates the frame from the fabric. Pre-tensioned Murakami mesh panels snap into E-Z Endurance 125 frames in minutes, so when a screen wears out you replace a $20 panel instead of a whole frame, and you can dial tension back up between jobs. Screen Care Basics From the Supply Counter
- Degrease before you coat. New mesh carries oils from manufacturing and handling. A quick degrease is the difference between emulsion that bonds and pinholes on press.
- Match emulsion to your exposure unit. Coat with clean, consistent strokes and expose with a step test the first time you change mesh count; higher counts carry thinner stencils and expose faster.
- Watch tension over time. Static aluminum frames hold tension well but nothing lasts forever. When registration drifts or ink deposit changes, it is the mesh talking; Shur-Loc panels let you retension instead of tossing the frame.
- Reclaim gently. Stencil remover, a pressure rinse and a dehaze when needed keep mesh printable for many cycles. Skip aggressive scrubbing that bruises high counts.
- Label everything. Mesh count on the frame edge, like the racks in our warehouse, means the right screen gets pulled every time and reorders match.

What mesh count should I use for t-shirts?
For standard plastisol spot colors on cotton tees, 110 to 160 mesh covers most jobs: 110 for white underbases and bold colors, 125 to 160 for everyday colors with a smoother hand. Step up to 180 through 230 for detail and top colors, and 255 through 305 for halftones and simulated process.
What is the difference between white and yellow mesh?
Yellow mesh absorbs stray light during stencil exposure instead of scattering it, which protects fine detail at high mesh counts. That is why our 200-and-up screens use yellow mesh, while low and mid counts where heavy deposit matters more than micro detail run white.
What screen size do I need for my press?

Are aluminum screens better than wood?
For production work, yes. Aluminum frames stay flat and rigid through the wet reclaim cycle that makes wood frames swell, warp and lose tension. They are also lighter than steel and easier to handle on and off press. Every static screen on this page is welded aluminum.
What are Shur-Loc E-Z Fabric Panels?
They are pre-tensioned Murakami mesh panels that snap into Shur-Loc E-Z Endurance retensionable frames. When mesh wears out you replace the panel, not the frame, and you can re-tension between jobs for consistent registration at a lower cost per print.
What tension should a screen print screen hold?
Tension is measured in Newtons per centimeter (N/cm) with a tension meter, and consistency across the screen set matters more than chasing a single number. Pre-stretched statics arrive at production tension ready to print; when tension drops with wear, registration drifts and deposit changes. Retensionable Shur-Loc frames let you bring tension back up instead of replacing mesh.
What mesh count do halftones need?
Most halftone and simulated process work runs 230 to 305 mesh, matched to your line count: coarser halftones print well at 230, while 55 to 65 LPI detail wants 280 to 305. Super-fine graphic work moves up to 355 and 420.

Static frames get re-meshed or replaced; Shur-Loc Endurance frames just take a fresh snap-in panel.
