How To Pick a Mesh Count
Mesh count is threads per inch. Lower counts have bigger openings and lay down a heavy ink deposit; higher counts hold finer detail with a thinner, softer deposit. Most shops run 110 to 160 for underbases and standard plastisol colors, then step up to 230 through 305 as halftones and fine detail enter the art.
Mesh color matters at higher counts: yellow mesh absorbs stray light during exposure instead of scattering it through the stencil, which keeps fine detail crisp. That is why our 200-and-up screens run yellow mesh while workhorse low counts run white.
Every screen below pairs with the ink you run: heavy-bodied plastisol from our Pantone ink wall moves easily through 110 to 160, while thinner top colors and halftone work want 200 and up.

Retension Instead of Restretch
Shur-Loc E-Z System: Snap-In Panels and Retensionable Frames
The Shur-Loc E-Z system separates the frame from the fabric. Pre-tensioned Murakami mesh panels snap into E-Z Endurance 125 frames in minutes, so when a screen wears out you replace a $20 panel instead of a whole frame, and you can dial tension back up between jobs. It is the lowest cost-per-print way to keep sharp, consistent screens in rotation.

Screen Storage That Pays For Itself
Warped, dinged or dusty screens waste emulsion and press time. A dedicated rack keeps coated screens vertical, separated and dark-room ready, and a cover keeps dust and shop light off stencils between runs.

Make Screens Last
Screen Care Basics From the Supply Counter
- Degrease before you coat. New mesh carries oils from manufacturing and handling. A quick degrease is the difference between emulsion that bonds and pinholes on press.
- Match emulsion to your exposure unit. Coat with clean, consistent strokes and expose with a step test the first time you change mesh count; higher counts carry thinner stencils and expose faster.
- Watch tension over time. Static aluminum frames hold tension well but nothing lasts forever. When registration drifts or ink deposit changes, it is the mesh talking; Shur-Loc panels let you retension instead of tossing the frame.
- Reclaim gently. Stencil remover, a pressure rinse and a dehaze when needed keep mesh printable for many cycles. Skip aggressive scrubbing that bruises high counts.
- Label everything. Mesh count on the frame edge, like the racks in our warehouse, means the right screen gets pulled every time and reorders match.
Everything mentioned here, from degreaser and emulsion to tapes and reclaim chemistry, is stocked alongside the screens at our screen printing supply hub.

One Stop, One Delivery
Screens Are Half the Job. The Ink Wall Is the Other Half.
Pair your mesh counts with the right ink and the press runs itself: 110 to 160 screens with high-opacity whites and standard plastisol colors, 230-and-up with halftone-friendly top colors. Our Screen Printing Pantone Ink page puts 75+ stocked Wilflex and W.M. Plastics colors one click from your cart, with custom PMS matching mixed in-house.
Order screens and ink together and they ride the same van: same-day delivery routes across Tempe, Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale and the greater Valley, will-call pickup in Tempe, and nationwide shipping with shipping included on orders over $250.

Screen Printing Screens FAQ
What mesh count should I use for t-shirts?
For standard plastisol spot colors on cotton tees, 110 to 160 mesh covers most jobs: 110 for white underbases and bold colors, 125 to 160 for everyday colors with a smoother hand. Step up to 180 through 230 for detail and top colors, and 255 through 305 for halftones and simulated process.
What is the difference between white and yellow mesh?
Yellow mesh absorbs stray light during stencil exposure instead of scattering it, which protects fine detail at high mesh counts. That is why our 200-and-up screens use yellow mesh, while low and mid counts where heavy deposit matters more than micro detail run white.
What screen size do I need for my press?
20 x 24 is the manual-press standard and fits most standard platens. 20 x 28 gives extra length for jacket backs and better off-contact, and 23 x 31 is the automatic-press standard with room for oversize and multi-up layouts. Check your press clamp spacing before ordering.
Do the screens come pre-stretched and ready to use?
Yes. The aluminum screens arrive pre-stretched to production tension. Degrease the mesh, let it dry, then coat with emulsion and expose; no stretching equipment needed.
What are Shur-Loc E-Z Fabric Panels?
They are pre-tensioned Murakami mesh panels that snap into Shur-Loc E-Z Endurance retensionable frames. When mesh wears out you replace the panel, not the frame, and you can re-tension between jobs for consistent registration at a lower cost per print.
What mesh count do halftones need?
Most halftone and simulated process work runs 230 to 305 mesh, matched to your line count: coarser halftones print well at 230, while 55 to 65 LPI detail wants 280 to 305. Super-fine graphic work moves up to 355 and 420.
How fast can I get screens in the Phoenix area?
Same day on our metro routes. Four stocked delivery vans run daily across Tempe, Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Gilbert and the greater Valley, and will-call pickup is available at the Tempe warehouse Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Orders over $250 ship nationwide with shipping included.
How long does a screen last before it needs re-meshing?
It depends on run lengths, reclaim habits and mesh count; fine mesh is more delicate than workhorse counts. Signs it is time: registration drift, falling tension and pinholing that outpaces your reclaim routine. Static frames get re-meshed or replaced; Shur-Loc Endurance frames just take a fresh snap-in panel.
